I can think of no better bassist to be honored at this weekend’s Bass Player Live in Los Angeles other than Geezer Butler! There’s not much I can say about him that you Sabbath fans don’t already know. From his down-tuning with Iommi to being one of the first bassists to use a wah-wah this pioneer lives on and exemplifies what being the bottom end is all about! I only wish I could have seen Geez play at the Mid-South Coliseum back in the day-bet that ruled! Let’s all raise our metal fists and salute this bass god as he continues his heavy metal reign.
P.S. On the local tip, if you are a Geezer/ Sabbath fan, check out the great Memphis show this weekend at the Hi-Tone with Crowlord, Nights Like These, Holy Gallows. You won't be disappointed!!! Support local music!
Happy 30th Anniversary to one of my all-time favorite thrash metal bands Testament! They’ve accomplished what many bands strive for but often don’t achieve-longevity. Reason being is that they write and play GREAT music! I saw them at Scion Rock Fest down on Beale St. back in June and the live show was one of the best I’ve EVER seen. Although I’m too old for the pit, I did hang near it with my friend Matt and felt 15 years old when Chuck Billy gave me one of his Testament wristbands. INTO THE PIT!!! True metal fans know that these guys are some of the “godfathers” of thrash metal and should be respected as so. My metal fist is raised in the band’s honor today as they also celebrate thirty years and the release of the “Dark Roots of Thrash” Live DVD/CD!

Join Rock 103 and the local Latin Community as we honor our passed loved ones at several local Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) Celebrations. NOT a Halloween party but a traditional Latin cultural celebration of life that includes music, art, dance and theater and much more. In addition, the ofrendas (alters) which are assembled to honor the dead are spectacular! Don't miss out!
Check out details below of several celebrations happening around town.
