The Morning Brew-HaHa!
Weekday mornings at 7:15
Join us weekday mornings for a little comedy.
Very little. :-)
We'll feature short comedy clips from America's Stand-out Stand-up comedians to get your day started. Enjoy! And no heckling, please. :-)
*Caution: Sudden unexpected laughter can cause you to spew your morning coffee right out of your nose in unlikely places...like in the middle of rush hour traffic. We assume no responsibility if this happens.
We've been celebrating Guitar Month throughout April, and as the month draws to a close, let's take a moment to focus on another essential instrument: Drums!
Meet six year old Avery Molek. He ROCKS Van Halen' "Hot For Teacher" and absolutely NAILS it!
Just think of how good this kid's going to be in another 10 years!
Congrats to the Memphis Grizzlies for a 92-84 win over the LA Clippers last night at FedEx Forum. The teams will play again Saturday at 3:30 in game 4 at the forum.
If you're heading to the game, be sure to stop by and hang out with me. I'll be at the Grand Opening of the new Jerry Lee Lewis' Cafe & Honky Tonk on Beale Street right next to Handy Park from 3-5.
In related news, the Rolling Stones had to delay the start of their tour due to the NBA Playoffs. Both the Clippers and Lakers have had games scheduled at the Staples Center in LA, and the Stones announced their May 2nd date before the NBA Playoffs schedule was finalized.
A post on the Stones Facebook page says their show has been rescheduled for the following night, May 3rd at Staples Center. Tickets from the May 2nd date will be honored.
May 3rd is also the date for Game 6 of the Grizzlies/Clippers best of 7 series. If Game 6 is needed, it'll be played in Memphis, so that'll leave the Staples Center wide open that night.
It all started with the Great Office Flood of 2012.
If it hadn't have been for that, we might have never cleaned out that closet and discovered that strange contraption now known as the "Flashback Machine".
I wrote about it back then in THIS BLOG.
A mere 4 days later after much experimentation, we had a new feature for the show.
"Amnesia Theater: Songs you know by heart from the times you can't remember"
It was on this date in 2012 that Amnesia Theater made its on-air debut at 8:45am....the time slot where it is still heard today.
There's been very little pushback from the programming types. How long can it last? I don't know. Let's face it. Radio is a highly competitive business...and entrusting a battery operated "Flashback Machine" to deliver the goods on a daily basis is a gamble.
So enjoy it while you can! Amnesia Theater...Weekday mornings at 8:45 only on ROCK103.
Okay, so I was going to write this blog on Saturday 4/20 but I guess I kinda spaced.
No kidding. I was going to trace how a note passed around a high school in California in the early 70's morphed into a not-so-secret codeword for Cannibis Consumption in our culture...but you can read about that here.
I was going to tell the story of how former (and soon to be disgraced by Watergate) Vice President Spiro Agnew once claimed the song "One Toke Over The Line" by Brewer and Shipley was subversive to American Youth and pressured the FCC to ban the song from radio airplay just as it was reaching it's peak of popularity. But you can read about that here...
I was going to comment on how things have changed over the years. Medical Marijuana is now legal in a number of states. But (you guessed it)...you can read about that here.
But I ABSOLUTELY CAN'T pass up sharing this video. But be forewarned: If you happen to be reading this in one of those aforementioned states where medical marijuana is legal (or if you happen to be otherwise partaking) the following video can result in uncontrollable fits of laughter. Heck, it might under normal circumstances.
It seems that during the national controversy over the song One Toke Over The Line, the song got performed on the conservative, family oriented Lawrence Welk show. I kid you not! I don't think Lawrence had a clue...but I bet some of the staff was giggling over this one.
Okay, my Champagne Music Makers...here we go. Ah one and a two and ah.....
There ya go. Hope it didn't harsh your mellow. :-)
Okay, somebody in our IT Department has a good sense of humor.
